Masahide Katana
Suishinshi Masahide is one of the top five saijo saku or top cass smiths oft the Shinshinto era. He is considered as the father of the Shinshinto tradition. Masahide was born in 1750 in Akayu, Dewa province.
When young he started the swordsmith-training with Yoshihide at the Shitahara school in Musashi province as his instructor. His name was Suzuki Saburo Iehide then. After having completed his training he adopted the name Hidekuni.
In 1774 Masahide changed his name into Kawabe Gihachiro Masahide with Suishinshi as craft name. In 1818 he changed his name into Amahide.
He studied the Bizen den with Ishido Korekazu in Edo and the Soshu den with Tsunahiro in Kamakura. Suishinshi Masahide died at the age of 76 (1825).
